Superposition – An AV workshop at Sonica

September 23-24 2024 at the Lighthouse

-Day 1: Listening & field recording – Processing & composing

Morning:

Participants will explore the urban environment through sound walks and recording. Recording techniques both conventional and unconventional will be used in order to facilitate new ways of listening to the environment and considering how and why to capture sounds for use in composition. I will also discuss how the recording process itself can facilitate a deeper connection to place, self and others.

Afternoon:

We will listen and I will teach how to edit and clean up recordings, compose a one minute track. I will discuss my own process of manipulating and assembling sounds into compositions. Both technical and conceptual aspects of the processing and composition stage will be discussed, and participants will work on generating short tracks to share and discuss with the group in order to have audio to attach to their visual component with Markus the next day with Touch Designer.

Day 2:  Visuals TD – 10 – 14h with lunch break and pauses

All day:

Markus will cover from beginner to intermediate (adapting to the participants)  Touch Designer aspects and will help the participant create visuals

to which they will add their audio composition. Each will leave with a short AV work they have created.
